Warrior Wednesday: Embrace The Suck

WARRIOR WEDNESDAY

Have you ever heard someone on a podcast or in a youtube video talk about embracing the suck? The idea originated in the military and means: While the current situation might suck, you need to accept it and work toward improving it.

This week I’ve spent some time thinking about how to actually do this and apply the lesson to improve your life.

So without further adieu: How to “Embrace the suck”

  1. Acknowledge that this isn't forever

Many times we wish life was easy all the time but the goal is not to have no problems, the goal is to have interesting problems that excite you and push you. The problem your facing now isn't going to stick around forever because you’re going to fix it.

  1. Take massive action

This is cliche but its here for a reason. You can do mental masturbation all day about what you are going to do, how you're going to fix something, or what your life will be like when you are on the other side of the current suck. None of this does anything, it doesn’t accomplish your goals, it doesn’t provide for your family, and it doesn’t push you forward. Next time theres something you need to do, don’t think about it, just do it.

  1. Make it a habit. When something gets difficult this is your chance to prove you are tough.

The best way to “make it easier” to do hard things, is by doing hard things. To work this muscle in your mind you need to train it (just like you would train any other muscle). Add in daily struggles to your life, i.e. going to the gym, going for a run, wake up early, etc. Make it a habit.

This isn’t a cure all. You’ll still have to do all the hard stuff yourself. But next time you are in a difficult situation I hope this can help you embrace it and tackle it.

Take massive this week,
